The address arrangement itself has ended
The accountant or office provider says your company can no longer use its premises as the registered office. At the same time, a creditor demand arrives there. This needs two responses: urgent legal advice about the demand and a properly authorised address arrangement for the company. Do not treat the provider's withdrawal as proof that the existing document has no effect.
Check which company the notice concerns, when permission was withdrawn and whether any period for transition was offered. Keep the engagement terms and correspondence. Ask what mail remains in the provider's possession and arrange lawful collection or forwarding. Avoid assuming that payment of an old account automatically restores permission to use the address.
ASIC describes a process for agents who no longer permit companies to use their address and says company officers may be contacted to rectify the position. Give the notice to the person handling your corporate records. Ask them to confirm the required steps and obtain the necessary consent for a replacement address, rather than entering another person's premises without agreement.
Imagine a director ending an accounting engagement but leaving the former accountant's address on company records. The accountant later withdraws consent, and a statutory demand is among retained correspondence. Appointing a new accountant may help restore administration, but it does not decide service of that demand or provide a defence. The lawyer needs the current documents promptly.
Agree who will retrieve outstanding mail, submit the authorised change and verify acknowledgement. Give the new provider an appropriate company contact and a backup. Keep the old and new arrangements distinguishable so nobody assumes the other office is responsible. Resolve any document-release disagreement through advice rather than making access depend on an informal argument.
Retain written permission, submission records and confirmation of the arrangement actually operating. Ask the lawyer separately what action the current demand requires. The practical decision is where the company can lawfully maintain its registered office now, while ensuring the transition does not conceal an urgent legal problem already underway.
