The job does not end at the work face
An attractive installation quote can leave out what it takes to remove packaging, offcuts or old materials. Someone must handle them, move them through the site and arrange an appropriate destination. Before agreeing to a low price, establish which removal tasks belong in your scope and how they can actually be performed at that location.
Check the distance from the work area to the collection point, lift or loading restrictions and the space available for storage. Ask when collection vehicles can attend. A bin located nearby on one project is not evidence that the next site will work the same way. Include practical constraints from the site information rather than copying the previous estimate unchanged.
Business.gov.au's pricing guidance supports including relevant costs of supplying the work. Get current quotations for the removal services needed and identify what those quotations cover. Tell the provider what material is involved. Where material identification, handling or disposal requirements are uncertain, seek competent guidance instead of assuming a standard collection service is suitable.
Imagine a hypothetical refurbishment where the quoted collection fee is $600. The crew also needs several hours to carry material from an upper floor to the collection point. The fee alone is not the removal cost. The example is about completing the estimate, not about prescribing a safe handling method for an unknown site or material.
Clarify who supplies collection facilities, who loads them and which materials each party is responsible for. If those arrangements change, check the applicable contract process before making assumptions about extra payment. Keep site instructions and relevant correspondence with the estimate. A verbal impression that the builder will deal with everything can leave both sides expecting the other to act.
Add the identified labour, transport and provider charges consistently, avoiding double counting an item already included elsewhere. If the resulting quote is higher, explain the actual service being supplied. Do not restore the old low total by deleting a known cost. Finding the removal requirement before acceptance gives you a chance to discuss it while the price is still being formed.
