The bank is considering more time but has not confirmed an extension

A helpful conversation is still under assessment
A hypothetical owner asks the bank to postpone an overdraft reduction. The relationship manager says the request will be considered and asks for a cash forecast. The owner tells the team the business has another month. Before changing the plan, establish whether any extension has actually been approved and what conditions apply. A review in progress is different from confirmed revised terms.
Keep the current notice accessible
Retain the existing facility notice, agreement and the correspondence about the request. Ask the bank what remains in force while it considers the proposal. Do not infer a suspension from the fact that supporting documents have been requested. If the wording is unclear or the consequences significant, obtain appropriate advice on the current obligations and the proposed change.
Show the unresolved risk in the cash forecast
Business.gov.au recommends identifying estimated cash figures and using forecasts to understand money coming in and going out. Prepare a view based on the confirmed position, with any proposed extension shown separately. This helps the adviser see the gap if the request is refused or delayed. Avoid removing a funding problem simply because a favourable answer is hoped for.
Submit a complete and honest request
In the hypothetical example, provide the requested forecast with clear assumptions and supporting information through the agreed channel. Explain uncertain receipts and other commitments rather than making the numbers fit the desired extension. Record when the information was submitted and whether anything remains outstanding. Ask who will communicate the decision and when an update is expected, without treating that expectation as approval.
Check any approval in full
If the bank agrees, review the actual terms, dates and conditions before relying on the change. An approval may differ from the original request. Ask the appropriate adviser about documents, fees or security changes where relevant. Do not assume that a verbal summary captures every requirement or that a condition has been satisfied merely because the business intends to satisfy it.
Update the operating plan from the verified outcome
Tell the people managing payments and commitments what has actually changed. CRP can help assess the commercial plan while qualified advisers address the facility terms. Until the position is confirmed, keep the original funding constraint visible and seek prompt advice on unsupported commitments. That allows the business to respond to the real position rather than the most encouraging part of a conversation.
