Do creditors still have a working contact after your premises close?

An empty premises can interrupt the information
After closing a workshop, business mail may continue arriving there. If nobody collects it, an ordinary account query or important formal document can sit unseen. Make a deliberate contact handover before leaving. The practical mail arrangement and any formal address-update obligations are separate matters, so check both rather than assuming one forwarding instruction handles everything.
List the places still receiving correspondence
Check the business address used by suppliers, the accountant, banks and relevant public records. Include email accounts and online portals where notices may appear. Identify who is authorised to change each detail. Do not use another person's address or account casually; ensure the arrangement is appropriate and the person understands what needs to be received and escalated.
Keep the supporting records accessible
Business.gov.au's record-keeping guidance includes access to and protection of digital records. Confirm that the person monitoring correspondence can retrieve the relevant business documents through proper access. A working forwarding address is less useful if every enquiry requires an old password nobody holds. Keep access controlled and avoid distributing credentials among several people as an improvised closure plan.

Test the handover in practice
Imagine a hypothetical business arranging postal redirection but cancelling the email account listed on supplier statements. Physical letters arrive, while account queries bounce back. The handover is only partly working. The example illustrates why contact channels should be checked separately; it does not establish how a particular legal notice must be served or when it takes effect.
Get formal requirements checked
Ask the accountant or relevant adviser which official records and notification obligations apply to the entity. If proceedings or insolvency appointments are involved, follow the appropriate instructions. Do not assume failure to receive a document removes its consequences. Send any formal material received to the adviser promptly and explain honestly when and how it came to your attention.
Assign an ongoing owner
Record who checks each remaining channel and who covers absences. Review the arrangement until the remaining affairs are properly resolved. Keep a simple log of significant correspondence and the action taken. An informal shutdown can leave loose ends, but reliable contact gives you a better chance of addressing them while the information and relevant people are still available.
