A concession on one loan may leave other questions
One lender offers a change that appears to relieve the immediate pressure. Before accepting, give your adviser the other finance agreements as well. Ask whether the proposed arrangement affects obligations, information requirements or security elsewhere. Do not assume each facility operates independently simply because a different lender collects each repayment.
Imagine a contractor with a bank facility, equipment finance and a separate working-capital lender. Gather current agreements, amendments, guarantees and notices. Identify references to other borrowing or security and flag wording you do not understand. Avoid deciding its legal effect from a heading or a short sales summary; the adviser needs the actual terms.
business.gov.au recommends clear contractual language and asking a lawyer to explain terms that are not understood. Use that approach to the proposed change and the existing facilities. Ask what must be checked or agreed before proceeding. This is a document-specific assessment, not a claim that every loan contains the same restrictions or consequences.
Show whether the lender is offering more time, additional funds, changed security or another arrangement. Include conditions and documents to be signed. In the contractor's example, a proposal involving equipment security may raise different questions from a simple timing request. Do not reduce the offer to a lower repayment when its broader terms are still under review.
With advice, identify which lenders need information or consent and how any requirements should be handled. Keep requests separate from confirmations. Do not tell one lender that all other parties have agreed while a response remains outstanding. Record who is responsible for each step so the transaction does not proceed on an assumption no one has checked.
Update the cash forecast and debt schedule after the terms are understood. Keep any unresolved legal or funding issue visible before committing. The useful outcome is not merely a successful conversation with one lender. It is a proposed arrangement assessed against the company's other obligations, with the relevant consequences and remaining conditions clearly explained.
