A payment after a bankruptcy notice may leave a small unexplained balance
Investigate a residual balance after payment towards a bankruptcy notice, distinguishing paid amount, permitted interest/cost calculation and legal compliance without assuming materiality resolves it.

The bank payment and the stated balance still differ
You have paid a substantial amount after receiving a bankruptcy notice, but the creditor says a balance remains. Contact your lawyer promptly and provide the payment record and current demand. Do not assume a small difference is irrelevant, or that the creditor's additional amount is automatically correct. Both the calculation and its effect on the notice need assessment.
Ask through the appropriate channel for the claimed amount, payments credited and explanation of the remainder. Distinguish interest, costs and an apparent missing payment. Keep the original notice unchanged. A screenshot of money leaving your account should be linked to the recipient and reference so the adviser can check what the transaction actually addressed.
AFSA's bankruptcy-notice guidance requires support for post-judgment interest calculations. Ask the lawyer to examine any such component in the actual claim. Do not add your own daily rate or assume every later charge is permitted. The relevant judgment, legislation and documents need to support the calculation being relied on.
Imagine a person transferring the principal figure remembered from a judgment while the notice includes an additional item that has not been reviewed. A small remaining figure may reflect a valid component, an error or a payment-allocation problem. The example does not decide compliance. It shows why paying the remembered main figure is not enough information to determine the legal position.
Ask the lawyer what confirmation or further step is needed and by when. Do not tell the court or other parties that the notice is satisfied merely because most of the amount was paid. Equally, do not acknowledge an unexplained balance without advice. Keep negotiations and any formal response requirements coordinated while the discrepancy is resolved.
Retain the final reconciliation, payment confirmation and advice about the notice's status. If the amount remains disputed, follow the advised process rather than letting a small figure drift unresolved. The practical objective is a supported account of what remains and its significance, without assuming that the size of the difference decides whether urgent action is still needed.
